FREDERIKSHAVN: Scandinavia Part Four
Frederikshavn. Freckharn. Or however it's actually pronounced!
We arrived here having stopped off in Alborg for a snack and a toilet break next to an aviary and the inevitable 'Jo disobeying the sign' photo op.....
To be honest I'm not sure entirely what it is that's forbidden here but I figured if I crossed the line and put out my hand like the picture then I wasn't far off being rebellious ;-) Frederikshavn has the north sea on one side and hills housing German WWII bunkers on the other. As we prayed in God's plans and purposes in that city, we noticed some activity on the beach. It turned out they were looking for amber which washes up in the tide from Sweden.
When I think of finding precious stones or treasure or something I think of a long and difficult process with things being hidden and needing mining. In this case the amber sits just below the surface and all you have to do is sift through the top six inches (not even!) and be looking into the light the right way to find the pieces. I had fun hunting and found two pieces for myself. NOT the giant one photographed above unfortunately! It struck me that God has many, many treaures hidden for us - and it's our glory, our joy as Priests and Kings to hunt it out. And, unlike diamonds which are controversial and difficult to find and extract, these treasures are right there in abundance and free.....if we choose to look for them. Nuggets of wisdom, gifts of peace, joy andlove, signs, wonders and miracles, revelation of Heaven, conversation with our Maker, precious truths to live by and love for.....it's all there for the taking.....if only we stop just that fraction longer, linger and choose to dig just a little below what we currently see.
